“Prayer catapults us onto the frontier of the spiritual life. It is original research in unexplored territory… [It] brings us into the deepest and highest work of the human spirit. Real prayer is life creating and life changing.” (Richard Foster)
Prayer can be awkward and confusing, especially if you’ve never tried it before. It’s hard to know what to say. But prayer is as simple as chatting openly and honestly with a close and trusted friend. God is eager to hear what we have to say, and just as eager to respond. Use these prayers to help guide you into an adventure with no rule, no borders and no limits. Prayer opens endless possibilities in our knowledge of and experience with God.
Breath prayer is a spiritual practice that historically the church has used as a way of aligning our patterns of breathing with simple words or phrases. It has been used as a way to grow in the biblical encouragement of ‘praying without ceasing.’
For some of us, slowing down and reflecting on a couple phrases is life-giving, and for others, we acknowledge this can be challenging. But together as a community, we occasionally give this a try as we continue to strengthen our spiritual muscles so to speak.
